ACEPHAP celebrates IVON PP Trial staff for outstanding contributions
The African Centre of Excellence for Population Health and Policy (ACEPHAP) has celebrated the dedicated team of professionals who contributed immensely to the success of the IVON PP Trial project. Speaking on behalf of the entire team, Dr. Sule Abdullahi Gaya expressed deep appreciation to all staff members whose commitment, resilience, and teamwork made the trial a remarkable achievement. The celebration, held in recognition of the team’s hard work, served as a platform to highlight key milestones and express gratitude to the project’s partners and supporters.
In her remarks, the Director of ACEPHAP, Prof. Hadiza Shehu Galadanci, applauded the entire team and lauded the leadership of Dr. Abdullahi Y. S. for his thoughtful leadership that led to the success of the project and the team for their cooperation and dedication.
The IVON PP Trial was implemented across five healthcare facilities; Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), Nuhu Bamalli Maternity Hospital, Waziri Gidado Hospital, Sheikh Jedda Hospital, and Kabuga Primary Health Centre. A total of 25 staff members, including doctors, nurses and midwives, laboratory scientists, a pharmacist, community trackers, and administrative personnel, participated actively in the study. Through their coordinated efforts, a significant number of patients across all implementation sites benefited from the interventions, contributing to improved maternal and neonatal outcomes.
Supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the IVON PP Trial focused on advancing maternal and child health research and evidence-based interventions in Nigeria. The project recorded notable achievements, including a 98% patient retention rate and the strengthening of research team capacity through hands-on training and mentorship. These successes underscore ACEPHAP’s continued commitment to promoting population health through impactful, data-driven, and collaborative research.
As part of the celebration, outstanding team members were honored for their exemplary contributions to the project. Dr. Halima Ibrahim Bello of Nuhu Bamalli Maternity Hospital received the Best Site and Site Coordinator Award, while Zainab Abdullahi Usman was recognized as the Best Research Nurse.
