ACEPHAP participates in 3-day Workshop on Revised National Policy for Sustainable Development

The African Centre of Excellence for Population Health and Policy (ACEPHAP) has participated in a 3-Day workshop on Revised National Policy for Sustainable Development. Organized by the National Population Commission with support from the FCDO Lafiya Programme, the workshop was themed “Aligning Population Policy Implementation with the Demographic Dividend Agenda in Kano State”.

Dr. Fatima Muhammad, from ACEPHAP and the Kano State Surveillance for Evidence and Policy (KASSEP) was among the stakeholders that participated in the workshop. She presented the KASSEP findings and also joined in the discussions on the economic dividend for Kano State and the NPC, which considers various indicators including health.

Dr. Muhammad also contributed in a group exercise activity on how different sectors can support the acceleration of birth and death registration, improve immunization coverage, and eliminate harmful cultural practices in communities. She represented Group 1, a section of the participants who conducted a SWOT analysis of the National Population Policy (NPP) targets for the year 2030. She remarked that “It was truly an enriching and insightful workshop.”

In his remarks during the workshop, the Federal Commissioner for the National Population Commission (NPC) Kano State, Alhaji Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, said the workshop was necessary to bring together all the relevant stakeholders, which can support in the streamlining of population policy implementation with the demographic dividend agenda which is established by Kano State government. He then commended each of the participants for attending the sessions and charged them with the responsibility of implementing the knowledge shared.

Also present during the occasion, included the Dankaden Kano, Hakimin Shanono, Dr Muhammad Ibrahim Bashir.
