Delivering her remarks during the engagement, the director explained that it is very important to utilize digital platforms to harmonize data on maternal and child mortality obtained by the stakeholders but not necessarily reinvent the wheel.

“Working together and having a consistent data platform will allow for easy access to the data, eliminate duplications of the data and encourage all the stakeholders to work together harmoniously at all levels in the state,” she said. Professor Galadanci also noted that several meetings will be held subsequently to ensure that all the stakeholders are on track with the progress and changes when required.

In his presentation, Dr. Aliyu Isa Aliyu, the Director of KBS, presented the KBS KPI dashboard and how it can be effectively utilized by projects like KASSEP and other partners for effective decision-making. He said, “The dashboard in its first phase will include 3 major areas: births and deaths, education and infrastructure, with major indicators that will explain progress and grey areas.”

The phase 2 “will include areas like immunization, malnutrition, access to water and sanitation, among others”, he added. Dr. He then demonstrated how the dashboard can be accessed.

The Kano State Director of NPC, Kano Office, Mr. Baba Balarabe Kabir, during his presentation, highlighted that the NPC is currently in the period of transition from the manual method of data collection to the digital method. He explained that NPC has 300 centers for registration in Kano State with additional ad hoc registration centers offering majorly birth registration, birth attestation, death certificates and report taking for stillbirths. He presented the NPC commitment to creating an enabling environment while working with all the stakeholders.

The director then facilitated the presentation of the flow chart by the KASSEP data collector and explained how each of the stakeholders can work with one another to achieve better results. In closing, she appreciated them for attending the meeting and informed them on how the conversation will keep going.
