ACEPPHAP, other Stakeholders unite in Borno as Embrace Project sets Course for Improved Maternal and Child Health
The inception meeting for the Bloomberg-funded Embrace Project, jointly organized by the ACEPHAP–TAConnect consortium, took place last week in Borno State with the aim of introducing the initiative and aligning key stakeholders. The project is designed to strengthen safe motherhood and newborn care, reflecting a growing commitment to improving maternal and child health outcomes across the state.
The meeting brought together an impressive array of participants, signaling strong multisectoral support for the initiative. In attendance were the Director of ACEPHAP, Prof. Hadiza Galadanci, Deputy Director Monitoring and Evaluation Prof. Baba Musa Maiyaki, Dr. Fatima Muhammad project manager at ACEPHAP, Honourable Commissioner of Health, a representative of the Borno Emirate, directors from the Ministry of Health, the MAMII focal person, and representatives from development partners including CHAI, WHO, UNICEF, and Lafiya. Their presence stressed the importance of collective action in addressing persistent gaps in maternal and newborn health.
During the discussions, stakeholders expressed a shared commitment to advancing evidence-driven solutions that will strengthen service delivery and expand access to quality maternal and newborn care. They highlighted the need for coordinated efforts, data-informed planning, and community engagement to ensure that mothers and infants receive the care they deserve. The collaborative spirit evident at the meeting set a promising tone for the implementation phase of the Embrace Project.
As the project begins, partners reaffirmed their dedication to supporting Borno State in reducing maternal and newborn mortality through sustainable, long-term interventions. With the collaborative momentum established at the inception meeting, the Embrace Project is poised to make meaningful contributions to safer pregnancies, healthier deliveries, and improved wellbeing for women and children across the state.
