Advancing the Future of Population Health: ACEPHAP presents at WACP 49th AGSM in Kano
Prof. Taiwo Amole and Prof. Baba Maiyaki Musa represented the Africa Centre of Excellence for Population Health and Policy (ACEPHAP) at the 49th Annual General and Scientific Meeting (AGSM) 2025, organised by the West African College of Physicians (WACP), Nigeria Chapter, in Kano State. The meeting was held from the 21st to the 25th of July 2025, in Kano State, and was themed Healthy Living: Transforming Lives through Healthy Choices. It brought together medical doctors and professionals from around the country.
Prof. Amole presented a paper titled “Making the Case for Maternal Immunization in Nigeria: How Prepared Is the Health System for RSV and GBS Vaccine Introduction?” In her presentation, she noted the burden of both RSV and GBS and thus the need for the vaccines.
She also stated that the initiative will leverage the infrastructure from polio eradication and COVID-19 efforts to ensure its proper acceptability. Moreover, the implementation of the introduction of the vaccines will also adopt the use of the communication platforms that have been identified as the best to disseminate the right messages to the target: the mothers.
Prof. Amole shared with the participants an overview of the center, launched in Djibouti in 2019, and its focus on training and research, and currently, noting that the center offers 5 master's programs. She also listed some of the projects carried out by the center: notably, the Flagship Projects E-Motive, IVON, KASSEP and MIRNA, among others.
